Bahwaduba Clan — History & Meaning
Tswana clan · Setswana
Totem Nare (buffalo).
History & origin
The Bahwaduba are of Nguni (Ndebele) origin, tracing back to the Musi lineage of the Transvaal Ndebele, said to have come from the area they call Maponong (associated with Zululand). They first settled at Makgophane (Mooiplaats, east of Pretoria) near the source of the Moretele/Pienaars River. Although Nguni in origin, they long ago lost their original language and adopted a Kgatla-type Setswana, like their neighbours the Bakgatla ba Mosetlha. They are today centred in the Pretoria/Hammanskraal region of Gauteng/North West.
