Bashaga Clan — History & Meaning
Tswana clan · Setswana
Totem Not reliably documented in available sources; as a Bakgalagadi subgroup their totem is not consistently recorded.
History & origin
The Bashaga are documented as a subgroup of the Bakgalagadi (Kgalagadi), a Setswana-speaking cluster of the western/southern Kalahari in Botswana. The Bakgalagadi are among the earliest Sotho-Tswana settlers of the Kalahari region, later overlaid by other Tswana groups. Beyond this affiliation, detailed origin narratives and a confirmed totem specific to the Bashaga are not well attested in accessible documented tradition, so finer claims should be treated with caution.
