History & origin
The Bomvana (amaBomvana) are an Nguni group of Mbo origin who migrated southward and settled along the coastal region between the Mbashe and Mthatha rivers in the former Transkei (Eastern Cape), neighbouring the Thembu, Mpondo and Xhosa. They are traditionally said to derive from the Mbo/Dlamini stock and became integrated into the wider Xhosa-speaking world while retaining a distinct identity.
