Dludlu Clan — History & Meaning
Swati clan · siSwati
History & origin
The Dludlu (also Dhludhlu) are classed among the Emafikamuva ('those who came later') who sought refuge in present-day Eswatini after the intensification of the Mfecane wars, having originated from the KwaZulu-Natal region. Oral tradition records their principal ancestors as Mtima, Mzomba, Hlangotsi and Dludlu. The clan name is popularly glossed as 'raging bull', and tradition holds that they were of noble or royal standing. They are found in Eswatini and the neighbouring South African provinces. As with most clan histories, these details derive from oral tradition rather than written records.
