The amaGcina are a Xhosa-speaking clan historically centred around Lady Frere (Cacadu) in the Eastern Cape, where they were a dominant group, and also found within Thembuland. They are connected to the broader Xhosa/Thembu sphere. Documented sub-clan names include Helushe, Xhamela, Ncancashe, Magwebulikhula, Malambedlile, Nokwindla and Thyopho. The amaGcina took part in the 1880-81 anti-colonial revolt in the Transkei region.
