Maziya Clan — History & Meaning

Swati clan · siSwati

History & origin

The Maziya are widely documented as one of the older clans associated with the territory that became Eswatini, commonly grouped among the Emakhandzambili ("those found ahead") — the peoples already settled in the region before the southward-migrating Dlamini royal house arrived and consolidated the Swazi nation. As an Emakhandzambili clan, the Maziya were among groups incorporated into the kingdom through alliance and submission to the Dlamini kings. They are long established in the eastern and central parts of the country. I have kept this to the broadly documented historiographical grouping and avoided asserting specific unverifiable founding-ancestor detail.
