History & origin
Important correction: 'Mnyamana' is not a clan surname and is not Ndebele. It is the personal name of a documented Zulu historical figure, Mnyamana kaNgqengelele, whose clan/surname is Buthelezi. He served as iNdunankulu (chief minister / prime minister) and commander-in-chief of the royal regiments under King Cetshwayo kaMpande, who appointed him after his accession in 1872. His father, Ngqengelele, had been a councillor associated with the reign of earlier Zulu kings. Mnyamana was a senior figure during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 and remained a custodian of the nation's affairs after Cetshwayo's capture and exile following the British defeat of the Zulu at Ulundi. He is an ancestor of the Buthelezi house that continued to supply traditional prime ministers (abanumzane/izinduna) to the Zulu monarchy. For a culture website this should be filed under the Buthelezi clan (Zulu), not as an Ndebele surname.
