Msiza Clan — History & Meaning
Ndebele clan · isiNdebele
History & origin
Msiza is a documented Southern Ndebele clan. According to recorded Ndebele tradition, the name derives from the Mnguni family who mediated in the succession conflict between King Musi's heirs Manala and Ndzundza, helping the brothers avoid killing one another; for this the family was honoured with the title Msiza (from -siza, 'to help'). Tradition associates the matriarch Noqoli (Noqoli) and her descendants with this honoured Msiza line. The clan is counted among the Ndebele clans that emerged around the Manala/Ndzundza division near the Loskop Dam/Middelburg area. As with other early Ndebele genealogies, details survive chiefly through oral tradition.
