History & origin
Nemudzivhadi is a Tshivenda surname of the typical Vhangona-type formation beginning with the prefix 'Ne-' (meaning 'owner/ruler of'), a pattern associated with the aboriginal Vhangona clans who, as first settlers, named the land's places, rivers and hills. The name is most strongly associated in the public record with Professor Mathole Hofmeyr (M.H.) Nemudzivhadi, the prominent Venda historian whose scholarship on the Venda Kingdom, Dzata, and King Makhado is widely cited as authoritative. Beyond the linguistic form and this scholarly association, I do not have reliable documented clan-origin tradition for the surname.
We publish the full clan names (clan praises) only once we can verify them against documented tradition — for this clan they are still being confirmed. If you can share an authoritative version, corrections are warmly welcomed.
