Ngomane Clan — History & Meaning

Swati clan · siSwati

History & origin

Ngomane is recorded among the Swazi as a clan associated with the Magagula, one of the emakhandzambili ("those found ahead") groups already settled on the land before the Dlamini royal line established the Swazi nation. Oral tradition links Ngomane to the Magagula chiefly house. The Ngomane chiefdoms in the north and north-west were among those brought under central royal control during the expansion of King Mswati II in the 19th century.

Notable figures & facts

No single founding figure is reliably documented; the clan's identity is tied to its Magagula association and incorporation into the Swazi kingdom under Mswati II.
