Ngubane Clan — History & Meaning
Swati clan · siSwati
History & origin
Ngubane is a Nguni clan name found chiefly among the Zulu, with a presence in the broader Nguni world that includes Swazi communities. Oral history places the clan on the western reaches of the Zulu kingdom. During the conflicts of the 1820s some Ngubane chiefdoms shifted allegiance away from Shaka, and sections later sided with colonial forces during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 and in the factional conflicts of the 1880s. Its primary documented history is Zulu rather than specifically Swazi.
