History & origin
Nyawuza is the principal clan name (isiduko) of the Mpondo royal house. The Mpondo (amaMpondo) are an Nguni nation of the Eastern Cape, historically occupying the region between the Mthatha and Mzimkhulu rivers (Pondoland). The Nyawuza name designates the royal lineage from which the Mpondo kings (the Faku line and his successors) descend, and as such it is borne by the royal clan rather than functioning as a common surname in the ordinary sense.
