Phaahla Clan — History & Meaning
Pedi clan · Sepedi
Totem Associated in tradition with the kolobe (pig) in some accounts; branch variation exists, so the totem is given with caution.
History & origin
The Baphaahla (Phaahla) are a Northern Sotho/Bapedi lineage of the Sekhukhune and broader Limpopo region, counted among the communities historically linked to the Pedi polity. Phaahla and Phasha are sometimes treated as related names within the same broad grouping. They appear in the record of Sekhukhuneland traditional communities. Detailed genealogy and a definitively documented totem are not something I can state with full confidence, so the regional and Bapedi affiliation is the safest reliable claim.
