History & origin
Shabangu is a Nguni clan found among the Swazi, Ndebele and Zulu peoples, concentrated in Mpumalanga and Eswatini. Tradition holds that the Shabangu were among the clans incorporated into the Swazi nation during its formation; one account traces a Shabangu group originally from KwaZulu-Natal who, following conflict with King Shaka, moved north and settled among the Swazi under the early Dlamini kings (the era of Sobhuza I). The clan's spread across the Swazi-Ndebele borderlands of Mpumalanga reflects this Swazi-Nguni heritage.
