Sibanyoni Clan — History & Meaning
Ndebele clan · isiNdebele
History & origin
Sibanyoni is one of the prominent surnames associated with the Manala branch of the Southern (Transvaal) Ndebele, descendants of King Musi who, after a succession dispute with his brother Ndzundza, retained the senior line. The Manala ruling lineage is the Mabhena; the Manala chiefdom largely stayed out of the 19th-century Ndzundza–Boer wars and from 1873 settled on Berlin Mission land north of Pretoria at a place they named KoMjekejeke (Wallmannsthal). Sibanyoni families are concentrated in the Manala heartland of Gauteng and Mpumalanga and feature in Manala royal and community life.
Notable figures & facts
The clan's standing is tied to the Manala royal community (Mabhena ruling house) rather than to one specific Sibanyoni individual reliably attested in my sources.
