History & origin
The Xesibe (amaXesibe) are an Nguni people who settled in the area around present-day Mount Ayliff and Mount Frere in the southern former Transkei (eastern Eastern Cape). They are an old group whose territory lay between the Bhaca, Mpondo and Mpondomise. During the 19th century they came under pressure from neighbouring groups, particularly the Mpondo, and their chieftaincy interacted closely with Mpondo and Bhaca polities.
