History & origin
The Zizi (amaZizi) are an Nguni group closely related to the Hlubi and Bhele, with whom they share a common Embo/Dlamini origin tradition tracing back toward the area of present-day KwaZulu-Natal and Swaziland. During the Mfecane many Zizi were displaced southward and a number became absorbed into the Mfengu cluster, settling in the Eastern Cape. They are traditionally regarded as one of the three principal Mfengu founding clans alongside the Hlubi and Bhele.
