N'wana wa mfenhe a nga tsandziwi hi rhavi
Xitsonga proverb · Xitsonga
Literally: “The child of a baboon is not defeated by a branch.”
Meaning: A child raised by capable parents will manage the kinds of tasks their parents mastered; ability and competence run in the family, and skill should be expected where skill has been bred and taught.
Background
A well-known Tsonga proverb using the baboon (mfenhe), a familiar bush animal renowned for climbing. Just as a baboon's offspring naturally handles branches, a person reared in a skilled household inherits that capability — reflecting Tsonga belief in inherited and home-taught competence.
How it is used
Said approvingly when someone proves adept at something their family is known for, or to express confidence that a person will succeed at a task because of the household and tradition that raised them.
